lol muppets ps3 can't beat the pc head on but in the consoles sure it will be the best in power but that still doesn't make it have the best games Cell cpu = multicore and so far i know it has 4 cores (quad) At least 8. Only the pc version of the chip has 4(which still blows all pcs out of the market, the 4 core pc cell is being sold to run servers and costs a bomb). For the record, there is no home pc that can even come near the ps3 power. While the gpu does do a lot of work saying a cpu is just for maths is very much ignorant....even a pc graphics card offloads most of its work onto the in-system cpu. A bottleneck is a part of hardware that does not match the spec of the other elements, and forces a slow down. The hdd does not match this, and the developers certainly dont....the bottleneck will most likely end up being the gpu or ram, but it'll be years before anyone hits it. 7 cores for ps3 = 20 GHz sorta 3 cores for xbox 360 = 10 GHz sorta now since ps3 isn't released (japan so far 2-3 days ago) i'll use the quad father tech from AMD this means it outperforms the ram of the PS3 by more then double. next up the VGA cards pc wins this again with 8800gtx and i'm sure it doesn't need to do it in sli since that will only gain 20-30% so only thing so far is the cpu that is a little better comparing it to the AMD technologie, amd is more efficient then the cell but cell has more GHz because of the on-die core numbers. then comment on the cpu rendering graphics isn't true, it is all done by the VGA card or else why even bother doing it. Cpu will mostly do sounds that belong to it, as they will be doing in the geforce 9 series from nvidia next year. (geforce rendering the movie not the sound then instead of the cpu movie+sounds.) so in short ps3 does win on the cpu but loses it on all others meaning if you can't get the ram to go fast the cpu can't go faster then it is meant to go. Also VGA card will be slower then the cpu so the cpu once again is waiting for other hardware. If you're going to compare a AMD cpu vs the Cell you'll see in the Watt-vs-Ghz amd clearly wins this. and the hard disk will be the ps3's bottleneck

omg to much text there i'll sum it up
ps3's cpu bottlenecks 1 is most problematic;
1-harddisk 2-ram 3-vga card
PS3 vs PC
CPU vs CPU = ps3 wins VGA vs VGA = PC wins RAM vs RAM = PC wins HD vs HD = PC wins
total PS3 = 1 PC = 3

and the hard disk will be the ps3's bottleneck You're missing the fact that pcs have to perform in various setups, and pc software can never be optimised towards one piece of hardware. I disagree that a quad core cpu can come near a 7 core cpu in general, but even if that were true flop for flop, a 360(clearly a lower spec) can get better graphics than a pc purely because of the environment they're developing in. You're also clearly not quite up on the Cell spec. Cell has an on-die vga controller, it has a 4 way bus (the fastest I've ever heard of) so large amounts of data can be ferried at top speed...and as for ram, the ps3 uses X-Ram..which I doubt you'll see many pcs with yet. Believe it or not, a console is not a pc. Gpus are put into consoles to enhance the performance but the development of their individual cpus are the primary element for each company (with the gpu basically being offered up by nv/ati sometime down the line). A gpu in a console is put to work, but it also takes things from the cpu (the cpu does more than the gpu, by far). Also worth noting that gpu tech has accelerated far too fast and they're actually at the point where the cpus of pc systems can't feed them data fast enough to reach their bottlenecks..this is unlikely to be an issue with the cell+xram+4 way bi-directional bus. ps. A hard disk can't be a bottleneck because games are streamed from disc. The hdd has no impact on performance. You might be trying to say that people will want more space, but you're obviously not clear on what a bottleneck means.

Just to really put the nail in the pc discussion (dont get me wrong I love pcs). Currently there are no pcs powerful enough to compile games for the ps3 (it takes a 4 quad-cpu server box about 15 hours for the average) so what developers are doing is tying ps3s together, creating machines of 15 tflops that can do the job in 40 minutes

Agreed. When a PC sucks with graphics and everything, you buy a new component. When PS3 sucks with graphics already and everything, you need to buy PS4 Thats why i will never buy a console like PS3.

I have a quite up to date PC and I belive that PS3 can do much more than up to date PC at the moment. PC will catch up in 1-4 years.
